Client Information: Deutsche Bahn, Hamburg, Germany
Sector: Transportation

In the context of the smart city partnership between Deutsche Bahn (DB) and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (FHH) the trade fair station Dammtor was modernized. An audio-visual art installation is meant to be a special eyecatcher of the pedestrian tunnel.

Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe GmbH - LED Solutions Center, former S[quadrat] GmbH, installed a total of three LED video displays in cooperation with the artist Nico Joana Weber and the architects of Peter Bohn + Assoziierte. A 6.5 m² square LED display with slim modules of Sharp NEC’s S series was chosen for outdoor above the staircase. On both sides of the tunnel LED walls with a pixel pitch of 2.8 mm were mounted behind glass. Both extremely flat displays, also with modules of the S series, are 1.28 m high, on one side 11 m long and on the other side 4.5 m long. They were mounted onto a custom made, flat sub-structure absolutely even to the façade that there is no hint of a subsequent installation. The LED modules are fixed magnetically to their mounting brackets. This enables a simple front maintenance which is necessary at such façade integration.

The LED displays are played by one Apple Mac Pro and Sedna presenter content management software. The content consists of videos with botanical motifs. So, its conceptionally oriented to the nearby botanical gardens. S[quadrat] SX[BrightnessControl] provides the automatic brightness regulation of the outdoor screen and guarantees perfect image quality even in changing light conditions.
